Villahermosa is home to some impressive architecture and one of Mexico's more important parks.
Zona Luz: The so-called Zona Luz is the attractive colonial heart of Villahermosa, and features late 19th century and early 20th century buildings. Calle Juarez, the main avenue, is tree-lined and has park benches where you can have a rest and enjoy the tropical atmosphere. The Zona Luz has a wide selection of open-air cafes, art galleries and museums.
Parque Tabasco: With its attractive lagoon and extensive gardens, this 108-hectare park is one of the most important in the country. There are exhibition areas, a livestock hall, an open-air theater and cockfight arena, a dolphinarium and car parks. Parque Tabasco plays host to the annual Feria Tabasco, the state's huge fair.
La Venta Museum/Park: The original site for the three giant Olmec heads and other features in La Venta was some 130 km from Villahermosa. They were moved to Villahermosa when the petrochemical industry wreaked typical havoc on the site. It remains a mystery how the 20 ton plus basalt heads were moved 100 km from their construction location to the ceremonial sites. Phone: 141-652 Open 08:00- 17:00 hrs, closed Mondays. Shopping
