In the bigger, tourist-catered, coastal cities it is often reported the all-too-common paradox of large five-star hotels juxtaposed to older, run-down hospitals that seemingly have not caught up with the times. On the contrary, Puerto Vallarta boasts several modern hospitals and health care facilities equal to the status of its hotels and the expectations of its guests.
Two of these such hospitals are Hospital San Javier Marina and AmeriMed. Both Facilities have bilingual doctors and staff and accept United States issued health insurance. Either would make for a competent and comfortable experience for persons seeking medical attention. In addition Amerimed Trauma Center offers U.S. trained paramedic personnel in their ambulances in addition to U.S. medical staff on duty with twenty-four hour notice. There are also air evacuation services available to metropolitan city centers in Guadalajara, Mexico and the United States. Sufficient, complete and modern, the overall hospital system has the technology that would make travel to Puerto Vallarta safe for travelers and tourists. (32) 2226-1010 The Hospital San Javier Marina is considered the finest medical institution in the city, largely due to the infusion of academic influence and financial support from their parent Hospital San Javier of Guadalajara. The San Javier emergency room and ICU are staffed 24-hours a day by board-certified physicians, and its surgical suites have the most modern and up-to-date equipment in the entire city. These capacities, when added to complete endoscopic, radiologic and hemodynamic facilities, make Hospital San Javier the North American equivalent of a level-one trauma center. The majority of the staff speak fluent English. Services are limited to minor and moderate trauma and most basic illnesses, including obstetrics and gynecology. They are equipped to stabilize acute cardiac syndromes, but they send more severe cardiac and all surgical cases to nearby Hospital San Javier.
