Spanish / Basque Restaurants

Mexico offers some excellent restaurants when it comes to Basque and Spanish cuisine. For the best Basque food in town, there is the Tezka (5228-9918) in the Zona Rosa. Its chef, Juan Mari Arzak, once received the Michelin's coveted 3 stars. Then there's Bakéa (5520-7472) in Lomas Chapultepec which offers French-Basque cuisine and is touted as one of the best restaurants in Mexico City.

Gaudí (5705-4911) is located in the Imperial Hotel, right on downtown Reforma, and Costa Vasca (5523-0120, 5687-4025), near the World Trade Center, is a good choice for those living further to the south of the city.

In terms of Spanish food, we recommend the Centro Castellano (5518-2937, 5518-6080) in the Historical Center part of town, which specializes in seafood. In the Roma there is Guría (5207-8191, 5645-7649) and in the south of the city there is La Viña De Quixote (5645-7838, 5645-7649) in Colonia Tlalpan, and also Lar Gallego (5523-1389) situated on Insurgentes Sur.

For a classic informal Spanish Tapa's bar in Polanco, try Tasca San Fermín (5203-1309). Ask for “Popeye” and mention the fact that you read about the Tasca in SolutionsAbroad.com and he’ll buy you a beer. Seriously.
