With its combination of desert and sea, Cabo San Lucas on the tip of Baja California is a hugely popular destination for foreigners and tourists alike.
With a population of more than 56,000 (2005 census), the small city is a center of tourist activity, whereas nearby San José del Cabo is where most of the local working population lives. They are very different towns: San José is home to the municipal headquarters whilst Cabo San Lucas hosts the Marina and Sammy Hagar’s “Cabo Wabo”.
The amazing combination of desert and the sea is one of the reasons why foreigners flock to the area, which is set against “El Arco”, where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortés (also known as the Gulf of California). The Marina draws Californians (and, curiously enough, landlocked Arizonans) with boats and today, the fishing remains extraordinary thanks to the “catch-and-release” practices implemented to maintain the fish stock. |
